It was a great day in Nashville for the Green Bay Packers yesterday. They defeated the Tennessee Titans 30-14 yesterday to improve to 2-1 on the season. The defense had a great day with two interceptions, a forced fumble, and eight sacks. It was one of the better defensive performances from this team I have seen. Here are three takeaways from the solid win yesterday.
The Green Bay Packers Front Seven Won This Game
This was an incredible game from the Green Bay Packers defensive line and edge rushers. I thought Quay Walker and Isiah McDuffie struggled most of this game, but they make a key fourth down stop early in the this quarter. The also combined for 15 tackles.
The Titans moved the ball really well the first drive, but it appeared the Packers were playing a soft zone. Once Jeff Hafley applied pressure, the defense had their way the rest of the game. Preston Smith and Devonte Wyatt each recorded two sacks while Kingley Enagbare added a sack and a half. He has been awesome through three games. This was no competition against the Tennessee offensive line as the Green Bay Packed sacked Will Levis eight times.
Malik Willis Continues to Impress
What another incredible showing form Malik Willis. He made his presence known early with a huge third down throw to Christian Watson on the games first drive inside the five yard line.
Willis was active with this legs as well, adding 73 yards on six carries. He was quiet int he second half, but it didn’t matter as he added 202 yards passing. Assuming the Green Bay Packers get Jordan Love back next next and moving forward, Malik Willis is a big part as to why this team is 2-1. It could have been easy to use the excuse of being 1-2 or even 0-3 because of a backup quarterback, but he has been great in a short amount of time.
A Huge Showdown Awaits this Week
It’s only week four next week, but this seems like a huge game against the Minnesota Vikings next week. They come into Lambeau Field 3-0 and dominating the 49ers and the Texans. Minnesota has caught some breaks the last two weeks with injuries to important players on the opposing side, but they are also dealing with injuries themselves.
Sam Darnold has appeared to look like the quarterback that was take third overall a handful of years ago. It has been a brutal start to his career, but he is finding his footing with the Vikings.
What might be most impressive is the defense under Brian Flores. They have not allowed more than 17 points this season and are clearly confusing opposing quarterbacks. The Green Bay Packers will have their hands full next week, but it should be a great game with a great crowd.
