It was the definition of a “trap game” for the Green Bay Packers this week. With a huge showdown with the Detroit Lions this coming week, the only thing that stood in their was was the 2-5 Jaguars. The Packers had early opportunities to put an early dagger in, but an interception deep in Jacksonville territory and allowing them to drive down the field with ease the last six minutes of game time made this a game that didn’t need to come down to that. At the end of the day, it was Brandon McManus who kicked the game-winning field goal for the second straight week. Here are some takeaways from the Green Bay Packers 30-27 win.
Green Bay Packers Quarterback Jordan Love Suffered Another Injury

On the first drive of the game, Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love suffered a groin injury. He was able to play the rest of the first half, but was bumped early in the third quarter. Love went to the sideline and then laid on the ground. He did not play the rest of the game.
I believe injuries have hindered Love in some way this season. In week 1, Loved suffered an MCL injury that resulted him in missing two games. Initial reports on Love’s groin does look promising, but it is hard to say if he will play against Detroit on Sunday with a bye week to follow. It will be a situation to monitor.
Malik Willis Stepped Up Again

What else can we say about Malik Willis? It is hard for a backup quarterback to execute a game plan that is not built around him, but Willis came up huge when it mattered most.
When the Jaguars tied the game at 27 in the last two minutes, Willis hit Jayden Reed on a 51 yard pass completion that got the Green Bay Packers in field goal range. The Packers took a run and a few kneel downs and Brandon McManus hit a chip shot field goal.
Willis continues to impress fans and other NFL teams. it sure feels like he is going to end up with some sort of contract when his deal ends with the Packers after next season. Willis has become a great backup option.
The Packers Continue to Grind Out Wins in the Fourth Quarter

The Green Bay Packers are not close to hitting their stride yet in my opinion. There is still a a lot on the bone for this team to chew off. At time, they look like they are one of the best teams in the NFC and the team we expected to see.
However, we still see simple mistakes (training camp mistakes) and a lack of execution. They did it again yesterday and let a bad Jacksonville team hang around that did end up in a tied game. You don’t apologize for wins in the NFL.
There is still half of the regular season left, but it is encouraging to see the Green Bay Packers winning these ugly games. It matters once the postseason arrives. In November and December, I hope to see this team take the next step.
