Green Bay Packers: NFL Network Reporter Explains Why Jordan Love Deserves Big Payday

After an impressive run last season, the Green Bay Packers bestowed superstar quarterback Jordan Love with a hefty contract extension. Speaking on Annie Agar’s podcast, NFL Network’s Scott Hanson justified this move and explained why he deserved that big bag.

The Packers have made a significant move by securing Love with a lucrative four-year contract extension worth $220 million. This deal, highlighted by a remarkable $75 million signing bonus, places Love among the highest-paid players in NFL history.

The negotiations, steered by David Mulugheta and Andrew Kessler of Athletes First, have resulted in an impressive annual average of $55 million for Love, aligning him with other top quarterbacks in the league.

Love’s agreement with the Packers comes after a period of uncertainty following franchise icon Aaron Rodgers’ departure, marking a strategic investment in the franchise’s future.

Green Bay’s move to lock Love down with a massive contract comes with good reason, as explained in an episode of The Offensive Line with Annie Agar.

“The thing about Jordan Love… he’s huge, Annie. He is a big quarterback and I think there’s durability there. That’s the name of the game, especially when you’re playing cold weather games outdoors in Green Bay, outdoors late in the season when they have to go to Chicago and these types of things.

That’s a big deal to me. There are smaller quarterbacks that are considered to be franchise guys, the number one pick in the draft is a tiny quarterback who is gonna get blasted sometimes. I think Jordan Love can absorb those. I like his game, start to finish,” Agar said.

In the 2023 season, Love stepped into the starting role and delivered commendable results, finishing second in touchdown passes, seventh in passing yards, and 11th in passer rating. Despite early struggles, Love’s performance notably improved as the season progressed, culminating in a playoff appearance where he showcased his potential.

The Packers’ decision to secure Love’s services for the long term reflects their confidence in his abilities and their commitment to building a competitive team around him. With this extension, the Packers have solidified their quarterback position and set the stage for a promising future under Love’s leadership.
