Former Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre was recently a hot topic of conversation due to his revelation that he has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. As the disease does not run in his family, doctors have concluded that Favre’s development of Parkinson’s is a result of the multiple concussions that he sustained during his long NFL career.
This revelation came during Favre’s testimony before a Republican-led Congressional committee that is investigating multiple states’ misuse of TANF (temporary assistance for needy families) funds, including Mississippi.
Favre, of course, is currently one of several defendants in a lawsuit that alleges he was part of a conspiracy that stole millions of dollars from Mississippi’s TANF fund. While he has not been indicted or convicted of any crimes, the Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback has repaid over $1 million to the state for speaking engagements he did not honor.
Former Green Bay Packers Quarterback Brett Favre Attacks Kamala Harris on Social Media Over Hurricane Relief
Favre, of course, has remained adamant that he is innocent of all the charges that are being made against him in regard to the Mississippi Welfare Scandal. He currently is suing Shad White, the auditor who brought allegations against Favre in a book and has tried to sue Pro Football Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe over comments made when news of the allegations broke.
However, his name is still heavily linked to the scandal and the taking of money from those in need. Keeping this in mind, it is interesting that Favre re-posted the following posts on X (formerly Twitter) critiquing Vice President Kamala Harris and the White House for their response to hurricane victims:
Today’s NY Post
I’m telling you, people are PISSED that this is happening
This was the final slap in our faces

$200 billion more to Ukraine
$2,500 per month to illegal aliens
$750 to Americans who lost everything in Hurricane Helene
Imagine voting for more of this. Share so all Americans see this. pic.twitter.com/UGMLpSlH3g

FEMA rolls out the red carpet for illegal aliens but abandons Americans during hurricanes. Shameful. https://t.co/LIg524AWNn

Kamala just told Americans who need “need it most” will be receiving $750 for hurricane relief.
We’ve sent billions to illegals, Ukraine, Iran – everyone but US??
Absolute slap in the face.

The obvious irony is that Favre is accused of stealing millions of dollars from needy people in Mississippi and is now accusing Vice President Harris and the American government of, in essence, doing the same thing to hurricane victims by giving more money to other countries or groups of people.
The problem is that Favre, as well as the accounts he re-posted, are taking Harris’ statement about hurricane victims getting $750 out of context.
Green Bay Packers Quarterback Brett Favre Is Not Following His Own Advice
If one were to listen to Harris’ remarks instead of reading abbreviated highlights on social media, one would hear that she said that the $750 is for immediate relief, not that it is the total amount they will get.
Later, she says that “FEMA is also providing tens of thousands more dollars for folks to help them be able to deal with home repair, to be able to cover a deductible when and if they have insurance, and also hotel costs.”
A press release by FEMA stated that they “had shipped over 8.8 million meals, more than 7.4 million liters of water, 150 generators, and more than 225,000 tarps to the storm zone.”
This furthers the irony of Favre’s re-posting of these accounts and their inaccurate depictions of what the government is currently doing to help victims.
Last month, Favre posted the following on X after popstar Taylor Swift announced that she was endorsing Harris for President:
About 150 million people are going to vote with only a handful of them being celebrities.
I hope most people do their own research instead of listening to their fav singer, actor, or athlete.🇺🇸
— Brett Favre (@BrettFavre) September 9, 2024
By re-posting the accounts that he did, Favre clearly was not doing his own research as a simple Google search would have led him to see that the government is giving hurricane victims much more than $750. He is also using his platform as a former professional athlete to sway fans into voting a certain way.
And it is his right as an American to use his First Amendment free speech to do so. However, it is hypocritical for him to do so when he criticized other celebrities for using their own platforms to support Harris.
