The Green Bay Packers defeated the Jacksonville Jaguars in yet another thrilling last-second victory on Sunday afternoon. For the second week in a row, Brandon McManus sent the winning field goal through the uprights as the clock hit 0:00, this time from 24 yards away to give Green Bay the 30-27 win. Last week, he hit one from 45 yards out to beat the Houston Texans in his Packers debut.
Unfortunately, this latest win came at a heavy cost for the Packers. Several key players sustained injuries, including starting quarterback Jordan Love, starting safety Evan Williams, and two-time Pro Bowl cornerback Jaire Alexander.
Love hurt his groin and had to be removed from the game in the third quarter. While he avoided major injury, his status for next week’s divisional showdown with the Detroit Lions, with the winner coming away with lead in the NFC North, is up in the air.
Williams hurt his hamstring and was not able to return to the game either. It is not known how serious his injury is.
But most concerning right now is what happened to Alexander.
Green Bay Packers Cornerback Jaire Alexander Is Getting an MRI on His Knee
Unlike Love and Williams, Alexander was not hurt until the last Packers defensive series of the game. He played every single snap for Green Bay’s defensive, deflected two passes, and logged a tackle.
According to Rob Demovsky of ESPN, Alexander hurt his knee on the final defensive play of the game and could not put weight on it. He is having an MRI today: “Jaire Alexander is getting an MRI on his knee today after he hopped off the field on the Packers final defensive play yesterday. Looked like he had trouble putting weight on his right leg via the Fox replay.”
Packers fans, and NFL fans in general, do not feel good about Green Bay’s chances to continue winning games without their best cornerback:
Expect trade talks for a CB soon if Ja is out for an extended period of time. Gute has until next Tuesday 4pm EST to make a move👀 https://t.co/pN13dqZDVB

hard to express how much he matters to this defense
they occasionally survived without ja under barry because he didn’t ask the corners to do a whole lot anyway
they are not real great this year without Ja https://t.co/g2vblQvJI4

not even trolling but if he’s out for a significant period of time, it’s over https://t.co/GU45t1aTGt

The Packers have their Bye Week after their Week Nine game against Detroit. Hopefully whatever injury Alexander suffered will not keep him out passed that.
