Georgia tight end Brock Bowers has been one of the most dominating forces in college football this season. Coming into Saturday’s tilt with Vanderbilt, Bowers led the Bulldogs with 37 catches for 545 yards with four touchdowns. He had more than 100 receiving yards in the last three games. Georgia fans got nervous when Bowers left the first half with an ankle injury and never returned to the game. His long-term status is unknown at this time.
Georgia Tight End Brock Bowers Injures Ankle
The initial news was good. Coach Kirby Smart revealed that the X-rays were negative which means Bowers avoided anything really scary. However, an ankle sprain is often a fickle injury. “It’s an ankle sprain, don’t know how severe,” Smart said. “X-rays were negative. Until we get an MRI we won’t know anything more.” The MRI will reveal exactly how severe the injury is and how much time Bowers might miss. If he misses a significant amount of time, the Georgia offense will be without their best target.
How Big Of A Loss Is This?
While the Bulldogs have handled their opponents so far, they have not looked as dominant as in past years. Bowers was the one exception. The No. 4 overall prospect on ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr.’s latest Big Board is a clear mismatch for any opposing defense. His run-after-the-catch ability has been on display this season and he has put together some highlight plays. The team may not feel it in a game against Vanderbilt but against the SEC’s best, Bowers will definitely be missed.
The hope is that Brock Bowers suffered a minor sprain and if he does need to miss time, it is limited. Fans will anxiously await the update on the MRI that will come once the team returns to Athens.
