After a one-year absence, Georgia football will return to the College Football Playoff. On Saturday, during championship weekend, the Georgia Bulldogs faced off against the one-loss Texas Longhorns in the SEC Championship game. A rematch of a regular season clash, which Georgia won on the road 30-15, the two SEC powers engaged in a defensive standoff in the first half. However, on the second quarter’s final play, Georgia signal-caller Carson Beck was hit from behind mid-throw, injuring his upper body. Unable to return for the second half, the Bulldogs turned to sophomore quarterback Gunner Stockton.
Stockton played admirably in the second half, routinely putting his body on the line and doing enough to force overtime against UT. After a Texas field goal, Stockton led Georgia football on a walk-off scoring drive, headlined by a four-yard rush from running back Trevor Etienne. Georgia fans flooded social media following the massive victory to support Gunner Stockton.

GEORGIA TAKES DOWN TEXAS IN OT TO WIN THE SEC CHAMPIONSHIP. They’re the first team since 1909 to beat Texas twice in the same season.
On Saturday, in a regular season rematch and another top-ten clash, Georgia football again got the best of the Texas Longhorns, this time in overtime and at the SEC title game. Offensively, Georgia tallied just three points in the first half, with quarterback Carson Beck going 7-of-13 for 56 yards and a fumble lost. Following a significant injury to Beck on the final play of the first half, Georgia Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart called upon backup Gunner Stockton. Georgia showed new life in the second half, scoring ten points in the third quarter and the walk-off touchdown in overtime. Stockton went 12-of-16 for 71 yards and a pick in the effort.
Stockton entered the contest just 13-of-16 for 135 yards this season. He has thrown two touchdowns against one pick in two seasons with UGA. Notably, Stockton was a four-star prospect in the class of 2022, picking Georgia over Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Oregon, Ohio State, South Carolina, Louisville, and Missouri, among others. Following the SEC Championship victory, Georgia fans praised Stockton for his performance:
