‘Lane Is The Real Housewife of The SEC’: College Football Fans Baffled After Ole Miss HC Lane Kiffin Makes Odd 2024 CFP Pitch

On Sunday, the College Football Playoff committee will select their 12-team field. This Saturday, conference championship weekend, four teams clinch an auto-bid, including the Georgia Bulldogs over the then one-loss Texas Longhorns in the SEC title. Texas, the former second-ranked team in the country, will earn one of the seven at-large bids, taking Georgia to overtime before the Bulldogs scored on a walk-off rushing touchdown. Among other SEC teams, the idle Alabama Crimson Tide, with three losses, expects to make the CFP after leapfrogging the Miami Hurricanes, the ACC’s third-ranked team, earlier this week regarding the rankings.

However, sitting just behind Alabama for the final spot remains the Clemson Tigers and a pair of fellow three-loss SEC teams, the Ole Miss Rebels and the South Carolina Gamecocks. On Saturday, following Georgia’s win over Texas in the SEC title game, Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin tweeted at the official College Football Playoff Twitter account, reminding the world that his 2024 team is the only non-Alabama squad to beat Georgia since 2020. Nevertheless, fans did not share his optimism for a CFP berth, bashing him via social media.

According to the official Twitter accont of Lane Kiffin:

Hard to beat the Georgia Bulldogs. They get everyone’s best shot and just win. Congrats @GeorgiaFootball.

57-4 since 2020, 3- losses to Alabama and 1- loss to Ole Miss @CFBPlayoff.

On Saturday, the two-loss Georgia Bulldogs beat the Texas Longhorns, securing their second conference title in three years. Georgia has lost just three games during that span, losing twice to Alabama, including once this year, and to the Ole Miss Rebels, also earlier this season. In their last competitive game of the season, Ole Miss bested Georgia 28-10, with Bulldogs signal-passer Carson Beck going 20-of-31 for 186 yards, no touchdown, and one interception.

With Georgia’s win on Saturday, Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin took to Twitter, reminding the College Football Playoff committee that they are the only team not named Alabama to beat Georgia not just this season but since 2020. However, at 9-3, and with losses to Kentucky, Florida, and LSU, Ole Miss is on the outside looking in for the CFP, holding the 13th rank in the latest standings and idle during championship weekend. Although Ole Miss still has a chance, especially with a Clemson win over SMU in the ACC title, fans clowned Kiffin for his tweet, considering it a desperate attempt to gain the attention of the CFP committee:
