In less than a year, teams will inject their respective rosters with young talent via the 2025 NFL Draft. As it stands, Georgia Bulldogs star quarterback Carson Beck may be the potential number one pick down the line.
Carson Beck arrived at the University of Georgia with significant hype as a four-star recruit, but had to bide his time behind established quarterbacks Stetson Bennett and JT Daniels during his first two seasons. Despite flashing promise in limited action in 2022, Beck took longer than expected to become the Bulldogs’ full-time starter.
However, Beck used that time to learn and grow as a player, and his patience paid off in a breakout 2023 campaign. He completed a remarkable 72.4% of his passes for 3,941 yards, 24 touchdowns, and just 6 interceptions. While he may not possess the same creative flair as other top QB prospects, the Bulldogs star compensates with an elite combination of accuracy, processing ability, and arm talent.
With his anticipation, situational precision, and versatility from both the shotgun and under center, Beck has the potential to be a true franchise quarterback who can elevate an NFL team from within the system. Despite having just one year as a full-time starter, he already looks like a natural fit at the next level.
Georgia Bulldogs Star Carson Beck Named As Potential Top Pick in 2025 NFL Draft
Even as early as now, NFL teams are already looking into Beck and how he would fit into their respective rosters. In an article for CBS Sports, Chris Trapasso detailed on why the Bulldogs quarterback is potentially a top pick.
“Beck had an adjusted completion percentage of 80.6% in 2023, the third-highest in all of FBS among qualifying quarterbacks, and his average depth of target (aDOT), at 8.5 yards), was notably higher than the two quarterbacks ahead of him, one being Bo Nix (his aDOT was 6.8) — he’s the most accurate returning starter in college football.
And Georgia is one of those “reload, not rebuild” programs, meaning Beck will continue to throw to high-caliber talent at receiver and tight end even after losing Brock Bowers and Ladd McConkey to the first two rounds of the 2024 draft.
More than anything else, Beck needs to demonstrate off-structure capability, as it’s become a vital element on any quarterback prospect’s draft resume. Without it, I don’t think we can see that passer go No. 1 overall. But everything else about Beck that has to do with his arm — and he can really spin it — screams No. 1 overall pick, particularly in what is perceived to be a “down” class at the position,” Trapasso wrote.
Although the season hasn’t started yet, there have been several projections on which team will get the number one pick. In a report recently by ESPN, the New England Patriots have a 21.9 percent chance to go first and potentially select Beck.
It remains to be seen whether the Bulldogs’ star quarterback has what it takes to be the number one pick next year. In any case, teams around the NFL will be watching him closely to see how he will develop by that time.
