With the first day of free agency signing behind us, let’s take a look at the biggest fantasy impacts thus far.
Kirk Cousins Signs With the Atlanta Falcons
A fresh season and another new team for Kirk Cousins. Reports are that Cousins signed a 4 year 180 million dollar deal with the falcons and is expected to hold a press conference to make it official sometime this week. Fantasy owners will have to keep an eye out for his health after suffering a torn achilles during the regular season last year. He was averaging 19.3 fantasy points per game before the injury which would be comparative to Brock Purdy (19.2) and Jordan Love (19.4).
Moving from Minnesota and losing his number one receiver, Justin Jefferson, this should play a big part in his fantasy production in the next season. Atlanta’s number one receiver at the moment is Drake London, who doesn’t have the catch ability or route running ability as Jefferson. The biggest question coming in besides Kirk’s health will be his utilization of second year running back Bijan Robinson and a previously under used tight end Kyle Pitts. If he can unlock all of their potential and take advantage of a weak division, Kirk could easily be a top 5 fantasy quarterback.
Derrick Henry Signs With the Baltimore Ravens
The Baltimore Ravens already handily led the league last year in total rushing yards with a whopping 2.661 total rushing yards, while averaging 156.5 per game. With the addition of Henry it seems that this rushing onslaught won’t stop anytime soon. Last year Henry finished in the top 5 among all eligible running backs with 218.7 fantasy points on a team that didn’t even come close to making the playoffs.
The change in scenery will be a welcome for Henry as he goes from a non playoff contender to a Superbowl contending team overnight. Being able to play behind a mobile quarterback in Lamar Jackson should open up more of the field to an already dominate Henry. If able to stay healthy, he should be looking at another top 5 finish or maybe even top 3.
Saquon Barkley Signs With the Philadelphia Eagles
When the New York Giants decided to pay Daniel Jones over Saquon Barkley the writing was on the wall for Giants fans. Although they probably didn’t think that he was going to end up going to their most hated division rivals, the Philadelphia Eagles. He joins on a three year deal Saquon will now see an improved offensive line which will help open up some holes for his explosive running ability.
Last year was a down year for Barkley on a dismal Giants team. He only compiled 182.2 fantasy points in 14 games, didn’t crack 1,000 total rushing yards, and had the most fumbles lost (2) of his young career. A change of scenery could be just what he needs in order to have a breakout season that everyone has been waiting for. Only time will tell if Jalen Hurts and the city of brotherly love will be exactly what is needed to do just that.
