The Ohio State Buckeyes will have to wait to see who they will play in the first round of the college football playoffs. Head coach Ryan Day has made headlines all week long and there has been a lot of drama surrounding his job security.
There are a lot of analysts who are saying that his job is not safe with the program unless they were to win the National Championship this season. Ohio State had championship or bust expectations entering the 2024 college football season.
Former ESPN Analyst Todd McShay Believes That Ryan Day Will Be Fired As Ohio State Buckeyes Head Coach At the End of the 2024 College Football Season
Former ESPN analyst Todd McShay spoke to Athlon Sports about the state of Ryan Day as the Buckeyes head coach for now. McShay said:
“Ryan Day is out as the Ohio State head coach after this season. You just put 10 (points) on Michigan as the offensive coach, and now you got a riot on your own field with your own players. But you know what was terrible in this whole thing? And it’s just Ryan Day, part of it you can say is having just the worst luck in the world. That Ryan Day when the camera comes over to him… you can read his lips and he says to one assistant walking by, ‘What happened?’ And I get it. Like his world’s collapsing. But you’re still the captain of this ship and when you see all your players racing over to the middle of the field, you better get involved. Right? That’s leadership.”
There are a lot of former Buckeyes players who were embarrassed with what transpired after the game on Saturday when the Michigan Wolverines players tried to plant a flag at the 50-yard and it triggered a brawl. This is another reason why they want a change in leadership at Ohio State.
Career Record
The interesting thing is that Day has a 66-10 record as head coach of the Buckeyes, but four of those losses are against the Michigan Wolverines. He has not won a National Championship in his tenure. The last time they won it all was during the 2014 season against the Oregon Ducks when Urban Meyer was the head coach.
With a lot of people believing that Day will be out as head coach after this season, a couple of names to potentially watch for are Buckeyes wide receivers coach Brian Hartline and former Buckeyes linebacker Mike Vrabel. There has been no one backing Day as of late in the media.
