It has been reported that former Browns tight end Orson Charles was arrested in Tampa on Friday night.
How Did the Incident Occur?
Per the Tampa Bay Police Department, Charles got into a dispute over a parking spot with two off-duty police officers. He even threatened to shoot them with a gun before being detained on Saturday morning.
The officers showed him their badges, and he went on to say this during the incident:
“I don’t give f—. I have one in the head.”
Out of their own fear of being shot by Charles, both of the officers reported the situation to an off-duty Hillsborough County deputy.
Once Charles was arrested, they went ahead and searched him. They obviously found the gun on him, an expired concealed carry permit, and a little bit of marijuana.
He was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a controlled substance, and introducing contraband into a detention facility.
This Isn’t the First Time, Though
Back in 2014, Charles was in another road rage incident that also involved a handgun. It was reported by Paul Denher of The Athletic that he was charged with wanton endangerment.

Now, what exactly is wanton endangerment? According to Kentucky Legislature, it says:
“A person is guilty of wanton endangerment when, under circumstances manifesting extreme indifference to the value of human life, he wantonly engages in conduct which creates a substantial danger of death or serious physical injury to another person.”
Not much information on the incident was really shared, but it was believed to be some sort of road rage.
What Did Orson Charles Accomplish in the NFL?
While Charles was in the NFL, he didn’t really impress. He spent much of his career hopping from different teams and didn’t accomplish a lot. He was drafted by the Bengals, but most notably, he was with the Browns in 2018. In the 13 games he played, he only had three receptions on 23 yards.
He was later on drafted into the XFL in 2020 by the DC Defenders, but he never even signed his contract with the team.
