The Florida Gators are currently in the third season with Billy Napier as the head coach of the football team. Florida is 1-2 on the year and it is not going to get any better for the Gators. There have been fans who have been very critical of the head coach.
The Texas A&M Aggies loss this past weekend is not going to make Florida Gators fans rest any easier. Some want the head coach fired and it will be interesting to see when he is fired as the head coach.
Penn State Nittany Lions Head Coach James Franklin Named As a Potential Billy Napier Replacement For the Florida Gators
Some Gators fans named former Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban and former Gators head coach Urban Meyer as potential replacements for Napier after the 2024 season is over. However, there could be some other potential candidates who could emerge into this role. ESPN mentioned on ESPN’s college gameday podcast:
“Right, Kiffin, James Franklin, Eli Drinkwitz, Matt Campbell, Matt Rhule, Mike Gundy, all right?”
The one who makes the most sense for the Florida Gators is Ole Miss Rebels head coach Lane Kiffin. Kiffin currently has the Rebels as the fifth-ranked team in the country. Would he want to leave a non-pressure program with Ole Miss to go to a place where there are massive expectations with the Florida Gators?
It is interesting to see if he were to leave, but the most interesting name on this list is James Franklin of Penn State. He has coached in the SEC Conference before with the Vanderbilt Commodores before he left for the Nittany Lions.
Might Be Time For a New Challenge For Franklin
James Franklin has been the Penn State Nittany Lions head coach since the 2014 season. It might be time for a change for Franklin after the 2024 season. He has coached in 129 games so far with Penn State and has a 90-39 record and a .698 winning percentage.
Franklin would be a much better option for the Florida Gators than Billy Napier would be at the moment. Franklin has done a very good job with recruiting for the Nittany Lions and that is something the Gators desperately need at the moment in the SEC Conference. If Penn State does not make the playoffs this season, the fans over in Happy Valley may want a change at head coach as well.
