The Penn State Nittany Lions have secured their second win of the season after a close battle against Bowl Green at home.
The Falcons came out swinging and kept the game close before the Nittany Lions close out the game, 34-27. Penn State entered half time losing 24-20 against the MAC superstars in the Bowling Green Falcons, but found a defensive rhythm in the second half. The Nittany Lions were able to hold Bowling Green to just three points in the second half, but still could not get their offense going.
Penn State Nittany Lions Barely Escape Clash Against Bowling Green Falcons
The Penn State football team is off to a 2-0 start despite being down at halftime against the Bowling Green Falcons. Bowling Green led 24-20 at the break and looked poised to provide a potential upset for the viewers of the game. However, Penn State was able to overpower the Falcons defense in the second half of play and score two crucial touchdowns.
Quarterback Drew Allar had a solid performance for the Penn State football team but also threw an interception. Allar looked great at times but then missed open receivers during others, which was a step back from his performance against West Virginia last week. All eyes have been on the quarterback as some fans and analysts feel the Nittany Lions have been just a quarterback away from true success.
On the defensive side of the ball, the Penn State defense could not stop Bowling Green tight end Harold Fannin Jr. The tight end had 11 receptions for 137-yards and a touchdown as the Penn State defense had no answers for his physicality. Wide receiver Malcolm Johnson Jr also had a great performance, with eight receptions and 81-yards to go along with a touchdown.
What Went Right For the Penn State Football Team Against Bowling Green?
The biggest and perhaps brightest contributor for the Penn State football team was running back Nicholas Singleton. Singleton recorded 119-yards and scored a 41-yard touchdown that put the game out of reach of the Falcons. The running back averaged 9.2-yards per carry and provided a surge of life on the offensive side of the ball.
Singleton also recorded a 14-yard touchdown reception against the Falcons as he did a little bit of everything for the offense. Fellow running back Kaytron Allen also added 101-yards on the ground and helped push the Nittany Lions offense down the field. Allen averaged 7.2-yards per carry and provided a change of pace out of the backfield.
The Penn State football team was also able to move the ball downfield through the air, with quarterback Drew Allar recording 204-yards and two touchdowns. Allar, however, recorded an interception and struggled with his arm at times. The quarterback was able to add a score with his feet as well for the Nittany Lions offense.
Senior tight end Tyler Warren had a huge game receiving the ball for the Nittany Lions as he recorded eight receptions for 146-yards. Warren tore through the defense and consistently found open lanes against Bowling Green. Allar was provided with a blanket of protection against the Falcons as Warren was an open target all game.
