Evan Stewart’s Up-and-Down Time in College Station
The former five-star wideout out of Frisco, Texas was part of Texas A&M’s historic 2022 recruiting class. Jimbo Fisher’s 2022 class saw NINE five-star high school players commit to play their collegiate football in College Station. However, after back-to-back down seasons, Fisher was fired and now four of the aforementioned nine five-stars have transferred out of Aggieland (Evan Stewart, Walter Nolen, LT Overton, and Denver Harris).
Stewart saw mild success during his freshman campaign despite a revolving door of Quarterbacks tossing him the rock as the star wideout caught 53 passes for 649 yards to go along with a pair of touchdowns. Stewart would only appear in eight games in 2023 and ended up with 38 catches for 514 yards, and four scores.
When it comes to Stewart’s future, while PicKell thinks Tennessee is the school to beat, Florida State, Ole Miss, and Oregon appear to firmly be in the mix, per a report from Recruits CFB. However, it’s worth noting that two of Stewart’s now-former teammates with Texas A&M have committed to Ole Miss in the past few days in the form of top-ranked NCAA Transfer Portal player, Defensive Lineman, Walter Nolen, as well as Quarterback, Anthony Maddox.
Stewart (#2 ranked) remains one of only two top six player in On3’s transfer portal rankings to not yet pick a new home, alongside (#3 ranked) Washington State QB, Cam Ward.
Let’s take a look at where the top-20 players in the NCAA Transfer Portal are headed in 2024 (and beyond):
