As of Monday afternoon, the Kansas City Chiefs are finally free to add Eric Bieniemy to their staff. There was speculation he could join the Chiefs for their playoff run following the firing of Washington Commanders head coach Ron Rivera at the end of the regular season.
The Washington Commanders stifled Eric Bieniemy’s job search
However, the Commanders kept Bieniemy on their staff throughout the postseason as owner Josh Harris searched for his next head coach. The move effectively cost Bieniemy opportunities to interview for another coaching job for the 2024 season.
The Commanders hired Dan Quinn last week as their head coach. They announced on Sunday evening that Kliff Kingsbury would be their offensive coordinator. The team still had Bieniemy on their staff early Monday afternoon.

The Kansas City Chiefs are free to hire Bieniemy
Bieniemy has limited job options at this point in the postseason. However, there is good reason to believe the Chiefs would be interested in him.
Bieniemy could join the Chiefs before the Super Bowl as an offensive consultant. The Philadelphia Eagles hired Vic Fangio as a defensive consultant for their Super Bowl last season. Bieniemy could stay on with the team after Sunday.
The Chiefs offense struggled in the regular season under offensive coordinator Matt Nagy. Bieniemy could be Nagy’s replacement for the 2024 season. Bieniemy could be one of the Chiefs’ top choices to replace head coach Andy Reid if he were to retire following Sunday’s Super Bowl in Las Vegas, as has been rumored.
