By March, the college football coaching carousel is typically done. However, a football legend made the choice on Sunday to bolt from his program to take a job promotion following a successful season in 2024. leaving yet another head coach opening available during spring football.
Eddie George’s status for 2025 has been unclear ever since he took a job interview with the Chicago Bears for their head coach opening. The 1995 Heisman Trophy winner at Ohio State has been the head coach of Tennessee State since 2021, leading the FCS program to a 24-22 record in his four seasons with the program.
The Tigers reached the NCAA Division I First Round in 2024 after going 9-4.
College Football legend Eddie George takes a new job

Pete Thamel of ESPN reported on Saturday that George was a finalist for the head coaching job at Bowling Green.
“Sources: Tennessee State head coach Eddie George has emerged as a target in Bowling Green’s head coaching search,” Thamel posted on X. “A final decision is expected in the near future, as he was one of three finalists interviewed on Friday.”
On Sunday, Thamel confirmed George was taking the job with the Falcons. He agreed to a five-year deal.

Bowling Green football will be George’s second head coaching gig

George was a legend in college and made the College Football Hall of Fame in 2011. He was a stud in the NFL for the Tennessee Titans, earning All-Pro honors twice and making the Pro Bowl four times.
At 51, George is taking his second head coaching gig. This will be his first head coaching job in the FBS. Bowling Green went 7-6 in 2024 and finished with a 6-2 record in the MAC.
Scot Loeffler was the Falcons head coach in 2024. He left to become the Philadelphia Eagles quarterbacks coach on Feb. 28.
