Taylor Lewan might be a three-time Pro Bowler, but even he couldn’t dodge the shame of a truly awful ceremonial first pitch—and a personal roast from Donald Trump himself.
Before the St. Louis Cardinals faced the Toronto Blue Jays at Busch Stadium, the retired offensive lineman was invited to throw the opening pitch. Unfortunately for Lewan, the ball sailed wildly off-course. Ever the showman, he immediately dropped to the ground and started doing pushups to lighten the moment.
But things took a turn when he came face-to-face with Trump.
On his Bussin’ with the Boys podcast, Lewan recalled the former president taking the opportunity to clown him in person. “I got, ‘Oh Mr. President, remember that podcast?’ He (Donald Trump) goes, ‘You remember that throw?’” said Lewan.
He added, “And kept going. D.J.T looked at me, scoffed. He goes, ‘You call yourself an American? Thought you guys were a big strong man. Looks like you are a little boy. Looks like you a little boy that can’t throw a ball, are you? And then he went like this… ‘You’re not good enough.’ And he walked away.”

Lewan, still stunned, admitted:
“That’s what my life is now boys. So while you guys lay your heads on the pillow at night, remember—at least you’re not me… because I’m in hell.”
Despite the viral gaffe, Lewan retired in 2023 with 105 games, 100 starts, and nearly 6,000 offensive snaps under his belt.
“Donald Trump Wants to Kill Sports”: Karen Russell Blasts ICE Presence at FIFA Event
While Trump was tossing verbal jabs at Lewan, he’s facing sharper criticism from Karen Kenyatta Russell, daughter of NBA legend Bill Russell.

With the FIFA Club World Cup kicking off in Miami, Trump has reportedly deployed ICE and CBP agents at the event, sparking backlash over potential racial profiling and civil rights concerns.
Former UN diplomat Olga Nesterova revealed that non-citizens must carry proof of legal status to attend—something critics say undercuts the spirit of international sport.

Karen Russell didn’t hold back on X:
“In so many ways, Trump really wants to kill sports for the rest of us… Is it because he sucks at sports and gets booed at events?… I can tell you one thing—we’re gonna fight back. Just like this big, beautiful Bill!”
With travel bans affecting athletes and rising tensions over immigration enforcement, critics argue this moment isn’t just about politics—it’s about how America shows up on the world stage.
