Hawaii’s football program received some shocking news regarding Domata Peko Jr. Defensive lineman Domata Peko Jr de-committed from Hawaii via tweet. The news broke Thursday, March 16.
As seen in the tweet below Peko Jr made a tough choice and chose to de-commit from Hawaii. Domata Peko Jr said, “After talking and praying with my family I have decided to terminate my national letter of intent to the University Of Hawaii and reopen my recruitment.”

Peko Jr originally committed to Hawaii on February 1. Peko Jr committed during spring recruiting. Peko Jr had other offers from Grambling State, San Jose State, Miami, and Michigan State. According to 247 Sports Peko Jr is a three-star athlete. Peko Jr was the 109th-ranked athlete in the country.
During his senior year, Peko Jr recorded nine sacks, 15 tackles for loss, had nine pass breakups, forced a fumble, and blocked a kick. Peko Jr also played tight end. Peko Jr caught 24 passes, recorded 388 yards, and caught four touchdowns.
Hawaii had an eventful signing period in the spring and welcomed Peko Jr with open arms. Losing a talent like Peko Jr is tough, but Hawaii will work with its other talented athletes.
Peko Jr is the son of former NFL defensive lineman Domata Peko.
