The Detroit Lions are having their best season in decades. Jared Goff is leading an offense full of weapons and the team is fun to watch. However, the defense has been suspect all year and the past three weeks have been brutal. GM Brad Holmes is bringing in reinforcements. Veteran defensive tackle Tyson Alualu has been signed by the Lions.

Detroit Lions Sign DT Tyson Alualu
The news was announced by Alualu’s agent. He spent the last six seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers where he recorded 158 tackles and 7.5 sacks. He brings a strong veteran presence to this young defense. Alualu has appeared in 191 games and has racked up 416 tackles, 25 sacks, 46 tackles for loss, and 15 pass deflections. He will be reunited with a couple of former teammates from his Pittsburgh days, Cam Sutton and Isaiah Buggs.
Can He Help The Defense?
In the past three weeks, the defense has given up 26 points to the Bears, 29 points to the Packers, and 28 points to the Saints. Furthermore, the offenses do not have to work very hard to move the ball up and down the field. Part of this is that there is little to no pressure on the quarterback. Aidan Hutchinson is great but when opposing offenses can double-team him, someone else has to step up. So far, that hasn’t happened. If the Lions are going to have a legitimate shot at a Super Bowl, they have to be able to get stops.
The Detroit Lions are hoping that this is a regular season bump in the road and they can figure some things out in the last third of the season. If not, it could be a quick exit in the playoffs.
