Detroit Lions tight end Sam LaPorta dodged a major bullet when it comes to his ankle injury suffered Sunday afternoon against the Arizona Cardinals.
Just before halftime of Sunday’s 20-13 win, LaPorta suffered a gruesome ankle injury that required him to be carted to the locker room.
However, multiple tests Sunday and Monday revealed that LaPorta suffered a sprained ankle, but managed to avoid a high ankle sprain or any more significant damage. In the grand scheme of things, it is the best possible news LaPorta and the Lions could receive.
“He had an ankle sprain,” Lions head coach Dan Campbell told reporters.
LaPorta is an integral piece of the Lions’ offense, and through the first two-plus games of the 2024 season has pulled down eight receptions for 94 yards, but is still in search of his first touchdown of this campaign.
The Lions will look to get LaPorta rolling once he returns, and building off a rookie season in which he caught 86 passes for 889 yards and 10 touchdowns en-route to a Pro Bowl appearance as a focal point of Detroit’s offense.
