The Detroit Lions have a lot to be happy about after beating the Green Bay Packers Thursday night. Aidan Hutchinson looks like one of the best defensive players in the league and Jared Goff has the offense running smoothly. One player that has really impressed so far is rookie tight end Sam LaPorta. The rookie out of Iowa is on pace for a historic season.
Detroit Lions Sam LaPorta On Pace For Historic Season
In his first four games, the rookie has 22 receptions which is the most by any tight end in NFL history. His 242 receiving yards trail only the legendary Mike Ditka (315). It has been well-documented that rookie tight ends can often struggle in their rookie season. There is a lot to learn at the pro level but LaPorta looks to be thriving in the Ben Johnson offense. Detroit needed another big weapon outside of Amon-Ra St. Brown and it looks like they got one in LaPorta.
Is Detroit A True Contender?
The Lions are answering a lot of questions in their first four games. LaPorta being a real offensive weapon is just one of the reasons why many are starting to take the Lions seriously. The defense was a huge question mark coming into the season but the pressure that the defensive line is able to create has helped this team get big stops in big moments. The running game has looked dominant and the offensive line is one of the best in the league. This is looking like a complete team that is ready for a Super Bowl run.
The Detroit Lions have to be happy about Sam LaPorta and his development. After trading TJ Hockenson last season, it seems they have found their next ultra-talented tight end.
