The Detroit Lions have a lot of great young players on the roster. This rookie class especially is looking to make an immediate impact on a team that has Super Bowl aspirations. There is one rookie that is reportedly turning heads at camp. Rookie safety Brian Branch has been excellent and is getting high praise from his head coach.
Detroit Lions Brian Branch Turning Heads At Camp
Branch fell to the Lions in the second round and he may be one of the steals of the draft. While C.J. Gardner-Johnson came over in free agency, having an additional high-level safety on the roster is never a bad thing. Head coach Dan Campbell raved about the rookie in a recent interview.
“More than anything, it’s just communicating with his teammates and getting, understanding how they work, where they’re at, where he needs to fit. He’s got the instinctive side of it, he has that. He’s got the football side of it. Some of it is just, okay the next progression here is. Understand where Kerby’s gonna be, where Alex is at and how that fits to you. Now, don’t take away your instincts, the way you play ball, but just understand a little bit on now, the bigger picture, which comes in time. That’s growing, he’s a rookie. But he is taking off right now.”
There’s a reason that Branch was a projected first-round pick. He is showing that his game can easily transfer to the NFL level.
Can The Lions Get To A Super Bowl?
Young teams historically are difficult to make runs with. Rookies are very volatile in their play. Counting on them to make an immediate impact is risky. However, it happens. Last year’s Lions saw Aiden Hutchinson and Kerby Joseph make immediate impacts. If players like Jahmyr Gibbs and Branch can duplicate that, the Lions could have a scary good team not just this year but for a long time.
The Detroit Lions are pleased with what they are seeing out of Brian Branch. Fans are excited too and the hope is that this is the beginning of a string of winning seasons in Detroit.
