It is that time of year when we begin to see teams free up cap space ahead of free agency and the Detroit Lions are the most recent to do so. Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team reported that veteran safety Tracy Walker has been released by the team. This move saves the team $5.5 million in terms of the cap.
Tracy Walker took to his Instagram page to thank the Detroit Lions and is ready to become an unrestricted free agent.
“Detroit I want to thank you for welcoming me in as a rookie and accepting me as family.. I want to thank the Ford family for giving me the opportunity to be apart of something special over these last 6 years. I want to thank my fans and supporters for always having my back through it all. I want to thank the city for always having my back through it all. I want to thank the city for holding down for me. It was many ups and downs but that’s life and life is 10% what happens to you, 90% how you respond. With that being the future is bright and TTIME is coming hard than ever for Year7!!”
Walker finished the regular season as he posted 59 total tackles (42 solo, 17 assisted) with one sack, one forced fumble, and a pair of pass elections. He did not play in any of the team’s postseason games. It will be interesting to see where he winds up next.
What will the Detroit Lions do in free agency?

The Detroit Lions are in a great position as they have more than $44.8 million of cap space available, according to Over the Cap. The team played extremely well with players on their rookie contracts stepping up and performing. However, the glaring need for this team is another member of the secondary to get going.
They have safety Chauncey Gardner-Johnson, cornerback Emmanuel Moseley and safety Will Harris as impending free agents so they need to address the secondary in order to compete in the NFC. Things are going to be interesting as they can make a massive play for safety Eddie Jackson or cornerback Adoree’ Jackson to help guide the team in the right direction.
The Detroit Lions also have some improvements they can do offensively but the more pressing need is secondary help. Expect to hear some Detroit Lions news pretty early in free agency.
