The Detroit Lions, under head coach Dan Campbell, continue to usher in a new era of winning. They are also dead set on keeping uniformity and comradery around the clubhouse, taking care of their own regarding payment. Amid reports suggesting the team wants to extend quarterback Jared Goff and superstar receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown, the Lions have inked one of their defensive backs to a one-year deal despite him appearing in only one game during the 2023 season. Per ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, Detroit will bring back cornerback Emmanuel Moseley for at least next year.
The Lions have also resigned tight end Shane Zylstra and kicker Michael Badgley this offseason. Badgley will look to remain the team’s placekicker after making all six of his field goals during the 2023 campaign.
Detroit Lions CB Emmanuel Moseley: Looking for a Healthy Season
Moseley, who signed a one-year deal with the Detroit Lions last season, is currently recovering from a season-ending ACL tear in his right knee, which he suffered on his second snap in Week 5 against the Carolina Panthers. This was his second ACL tear, the first occurring in Week 5 of the 2022 season while he was a member of the San Francisco 49ers.
Lions are re-signing CB Emmanuel Moseley to a one-year deal before he can enter free agency, per source. Moseley injured his ACL during his first game for Detroit in Week 5 vs. the Carolina Panthers, one year after he had torn his other ACL. But the Lions are bringing him back.

Moseley, an undrafted signee to the 49ers in 2018, spent his first five seasons with the NFC West club. The Tennessee product played just one game during his rookie season before suffering a season-ending shoulder injury. Moseley morphed into a big-time player for San Francisco in 2019, recording 50 tackles, eight passes defended, and one interception in 16 games. He intercepted Green Bay Packer quarterback Aaron Rodgers during the postseason. Moseley continued to shine over the next three seasons, recording three interceptions, a touchdown, a fumble recovery, 25 passes defended, and 85 tackles.
Detroit Lions: Defensive Improvement in 2023
The Detroit Lions allowed a league-worst 32.4 points per game in 2020. They allowed 27.5 points per game in 2021 and 25.1 points per game in 2022 before surrendering 23.2 points in 2023. The Lions posted their best defense numbers under head coach Dan Campbell last season, mainly due to a fantastic front seven. Opposing rushers averaged just 3.7 yards per rush attempt, the third-lowest mark in the NFL.
However, the secondary struggled, allowing 4,205 passing yards and 28 touchdowns. The eventual return of cornerback Emmanuel Moseley should help shore up the secondary.
