The first-seeded Detroit Lions host the sixth-seeded Washington Commanders at Ford Field on Saturday night for the Divisional Round. With a win over Washington, Detroit would advance to its second consecutive NFC Championship Game appearance. Vegas really likes the Lions’ odds of advancing since they are favored by 9.5 points with an over/under of 55.5 points.
The Detroit Lions Pro Bowl interior offensive lineman suffered an injury late in Week 18
Kevin Zeitler suffered an apparent right hamstring injury late in the fourth quarter against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 18. Zeitler limped off the field with a heavy limp and would miss their last five plays of the game. Since hamstring injuries can linger, there was a possibility he may not be ready for their Divisional Round matchup even though they are coming off a much-needed BYE.
The Lions’ Pro Bowl interior offensive lineman receives a brutal injury update
Kevin Zeitler (hamstring) did not participate in Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday’s practice sessions, leaving his availability in doubt. A little while ago, the Detroit Lions released the week’s injury report and ruled out two players, including Zeitler. Not having their Pro Bowl interior offensive lineman available is a brutal loss for the offense and offensive line since the Commanders have a talented interior defensive line group led by Pro Bowlers Daron Payne and Jonathan Allen.
Who starts at right guard?
Head coach Dan Campbell confirmed during Thursday’s press conference that sixth-round pick Christian Mahogany will start at right guard against the Washington Commanders. Mahogany started the first half of his rookie season on the NFI list to recover from mononucleosis, which plagued him until the start of training camp. He has since played seven games this season, including a start at left guard in place of Graham Glasgow in Week 16 against the Chicago Bears.
He has a chance to audition for the starting guard position of the future. How will he perform against the Commanders’ defensive front?
