Star Detroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams was pulled over by Detroit police two weeks before being suspended by the NFL for violating their performance-enhancing drug policy.
Detroit police found a gun in Williams’ car, but the incident is now under investigation as the Detroit Police Department is trying to find out why Williams was not arrested.

The gun found by police was registered to Jameson Williams, but the issue for him should have come when police found out he doesn’t have a Concealed Pistol License (CPL).
Multiple guns were found in the car after Williams’ brother disclosed their presence to the police. The gun under Williams’ seat was registered to him while the second gun in the backseat was not.

When asked why he had a gun, Williams responded by saying he uses it for protection in Detroit. According to the Rochester Institute of Technology, Detroit’s homicide rate is the third-highest in the country.
Detroit Police Commander Michael McGinnis explained that Williams should have been processed in an article from WXYZ from Detroit.
“I feel that there was probable cause to arrest, and he was under arrest by the patrol officer,” McGinnis said. “And because of that, he should have been conveyed to the Detroit Detention Center and processed.”
According to the same WXYZ article, the department typically tries to do everything by the book when it comes to high-profile arrests as to avoid drawing media attention. The responding officer, a sergeant, immediately recognized Williams as he was a Lions fan, a part of the story that was corroborated by the Lions wallpaper seen on his iPhone in the bodycam footage.
The footage shows him making calls to higher-ranking officers until he gets confirmation that he is allowed to let Williams go. No police report was filed.
