The Detroit Lions enter the offseason with the tenth-highest salary cap in the NFL, with $51.55 million cap space to work with. However, Detroit having the tenth most cap space does not mean they will not make any roster moves and part ways with anybody. Similar to every NFL team, the Lions have at least one contract they would like to eliminate.
One player who could be on the chopping block is their Pro Bowler.
The Detroit Lions Pro Bowl special teamer had a subpar 2024 campaign

Jalen Reeves-Maybin had a subpar 2024 campaign, missing significant time due to injury. Reeves-Maybin recorded 14 tackles and one TFL and represented 159 defensive and 210 special teams snaps in ten games. He missed seven games (Weeks 10-16) with a neck injury, but returned in Week 17 and played their final three games.
Reeves-Maybin enters the final year of his two-year, $7 million contract extension. He is set to earn a $2,745,000 base salary, a $1,250,000 signing bonus, a $500,000 roster bonus due March 1, a $255,000 per-game roster bonus, and a $4,750,000 cap hit in 2025. Since the roster bonus was coming up, the Lions had to decide whether to keep him on their roster or release them.
