New Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton is not messing around. The team knew what they signed up for when they hired him as Nathaniel Hackett’s successor, and this was abundantly clear when Payton recently decided to go on an all-out, unfiltered hatchet job on his predecessor.
Right now, it’s starting quarterback Russell Wilson who’s in Payton’s crosshairs.
Sean Payton Drops NSFW Truth Bomb on Denver Broncos Star Russell Wilson
One of the reasons Denver brought Payton in was in order for the veteran coach to help revive Wilson’s floundering career. From being one of the top quarterbacks in the entire league, the nine-time Pro Bowler emerged as a laughing stock and pretty much a walking meme as he struggled mightily in his debut season in Denver.
There’s no denying that Wilson still remains to be one of the best QBs in the game today. Payton himself is well aware of this fact, and he knows exactly what Wilson has to do in order to prove to the rest of the world that this is the case.
Payton hasn’t been shy about dropping bombs on his star quarterback. In fact, according to Seth Wickersham of ESPN, the 59-year-old shot-caller has told Wilson straight up that in order to “salvage his career,” the Super Bowl-winning QB must “focus less on Russell Inc.”
That’s not all Payton said to his star:
“Will you f—ing stop kissing all the babies?” Payton told Wilson. “You’re not running for public office.”
If there’s one thing that you can count on with Sean Payton, it’s delivering the unfiltered truth — regardless of how harsh it might be. This savage message to Wilson is a clear testament to this fact.
As Wickersham noted in his article, Payton just “doesn’t care if he comes off like an a–hole, or if he is an a–hole.” So long as he gets the job done.
