Denver Broncos Implored To Trade For Chicago Bears Former 1st Round QB As Quarterback Options Slowly Decrease

A year after Sean Payton’s arrival, the Denver Broncos have gone from borderline contenders with hope for a reinvigorated Russell Wilson alongside a strong offensive line and receiving talent from the likes of Jerry Jeudy and Courtland Sutton.

Entering the 2024 season the outlook is considerably more bleak. Not only did the Broncos take the biggest dead cap hit in the history of the NFL, but Jerry Jeudy was traded to the Cleveland Browns for just a 5th and 6th round draft picks in 2024.

Equally, Lloyd Cushenberry, Denver’s best offensive lineman, signed an offseason deal in free agency with the Tennessee Titans, and the rest of the Denver Broncos’ roster lacks blue chip talent and feels lacking an identity.

Justin Fields The Answer For Denver?

Consequently, Gilberto Manzano of Sports Illustrated believes that the Broncos should make a trade for the Chicago Bears’ Justin Fields, regardless of future draft moves in this upcoming draft.

“Even if the Broncos decide to take a quarterback with the No. 12 pick in the draft, they don’t have the resources to build a beneficial surrounding for a rookie quarterback. Fields has starting experience and can create plays on his own with his legs and arm.

He might not fit Sean Payton’s scheme, but the Broncos don’t have many options.”

And Manzano is correct; right now the quarterback depth chart goes Jarrett Stidham – Ben DiNucci; neither of whom inspire any sort of genuine confidence.

Fields was expected to be a hot commodity on the trade market this free agency period, however, few teams have reached out to the Bears, leading to the expectancy that the QB could be attained for as little as a day 3 pick in the draft.

Let’s see what the Broncos do, and where Fields eventually lands.
