With the 2024 free agency nearing its end, the Denver Broncos are still without a QB1. With the departure of Russell Wilson, there’s an air of uncertainty surrounding the team until they finally manage to find a proper QB who can start in 2024.
While there is plenty of belief that Sean Payton will choose a young buck to work with from the deep pool of QB talent available in the 2024 Draft, there’s always a possibility that the head coach wouldn’t like what the available pool of players would be when it’s their turn to pick.
The current room of available free-agent QBs might not be the best available, but getting one off the free-agent market may be what they need if Payton doesn’t think any of the current crop of QB prospects is worth investing in.
Are there any QBs left for the Denver Broncos in the free-agent market?
The current picture for the Broncos when it comes to finding a bridge QB in free agency isn’t giving the team any hope that they can compete in 2024. Andrew Mason of Denver Sports wrote about the slim pickings left for the Broncos in free agency:
At this point, it might behoove the Broncos to wait and see on the quarterback market. The aisles have been picked clean, and at the moment, no needs appear poised to arise. Thus, Denver could elect to see how the draft falls — and what it yields at the game’s most important position — before acting to add a veteran.
Free agents remaining include:
-
Kyle Allen
-
Matt Barkley
-
Feleipe Franks
-
Blaine Gabbert
-
Garrett Gilbert
-
Brian Hoyer
-
A.J. McCarron
-
Trevor Siemian
-
Nate Sudfeld
-
Ryan Tannehill
-
Carson Wentz
-
Logan Woodside
Among the names still available for the Broncos, Tannehill and Wentz would be the most probable options Sean Payton would look into.
Is either Tannehill or Wentz the answer for the Broncos?
Tannehill has significantly fallen off in 2023, solidifying the decision of the Tennessee Titans to blow up the team. Last year, he passed for 1616 yards, four touchdowns, and seven interceptions.
Wentz didn’t fare much better as a backup for the Los Angeles Rams. The one-time Super Bowl champ only played in two games for the Rams, passing for 163 yards, two TDs, and one pick.
Considering the current situation, no one in the Denver Broncos organization would want either man under center. However, it would be wrong to count either of them out if the draft doesn’t pan out in their favor.
