The Baltimore Ravens managed to land one of the most coveted free agents in free agency, Derrick Henry, which elicited reactions from the football community, including Deion Sanders.
The Colorado Buffaloes head coach took to social media to make his true feelings known about the move, saying that he is excited for the Baltimore Ravens, although he threw some shade at the NBA along the way.
Deion Sanders Throws Shade at NBA
“(Derrick Henry) with the Ravens and (Lamar Jackson), Lord, have mercy on the rest of the league because it’s a wrap!! The NBA would’ve blocked this move, WOW! This is epic, but I hate the way we’ve allowed the RB position to be devalued. #CoachPrime” wrote Sanders on his X (formerly known as Twitter) on Wednesday.
Deion Sanders was probably referring to the botched trade that happened more than a decade ago when then-NBA commissioner David Stern vetoed a potential trade that would’ve sent Chris Paul to the Lakers, as it remains one of the biggest what-ifs in recent memory that is still being talked about today.
Why Deion Sanders is a fan of this move by the Baltimore Ravens
Sanders, who played for the Baltimore Ravens towards the end of his NFL career, loves this signing because it bolsters Baltimore’s already-potent offense, particularly in the run game.
Sanders’ former NFL team led the league in rushing last season with 2,661 yards. But with their top running back from last year, Gus Edwards, leaving for the Los Angeles Chargers, there was a pressing need to find his replacement.

Adding someone of Henry’s caliber is certainly the way to go because his body of work speaks for itself. The Alabama product is a four-time Pro Bowler, two-time NFL rushing yards leader, and two-time NFL rushing touchdowns leader, and he won the NFL Offensive Player of the Year award in 2020.
In 2023, Henry amassed 1,167 rushing yards for 12 rushing touchdowns in yet another productive campaign. Despite turning 30 years old in January, Henry is still one of the most powerful running backs in the NFL today.
With Lamar Jackson as Henry’s running mate, the Baltimore Ravens can lead the league in rushing yards again next season. In 2023, Jackson, who won his second league MVP trophy, led the Baltimore Ravens in rushing with 821 yards.
