The game of football operates in three phases; offense, defense, and special teams. While all three are important and can be pivotal points from game to game, one phase stands out from the rest. Defense wins championships.  During the 80’s and 90’s the Chicago Bears and Pittsburgh Steelers sported dominant defenses, creating dynasties. As of recent years more explosive offenses have brought this quote from coach Bear Bryant into question.

    #7 Ranked Defense in 2021

The Dallas Cowboys defense was ranked 7th in the 2021 season.  During the season their offense lost their step at times, leaving it up to the defense to hold it down. despite  being plagued by penalties the Cowboys defense played well all season. They were able to re-sign a few players, returning almost all of last years starters. The young talent and experienced leadership will help them throughout the 2022 season.

    Young Defensive Studs

There are some key players expected to stand out amongst their peers.  On the defensive line, Osa Odighizuwa is entering his second season.  He showed great potential during his rookie season, giving fans reason to keep an eye on him. Micah Parsons, the linebacker or defensive end, played exceptionally well for a rookie. He demonstrated speed, strength, and agility while he proved to be a problem for offenses. In the secondary, Trevon Diggs frustrated quarterbacks all season by being an absolute ball hawk, and a good one.  He earned that reputation last year, his second season. Diggs can expect to be matched up against each teams best threat at wide receiver.  The common theme is young talent. Each of these players are entering the season with their heads held high based off last year’s performance. Cowboys fans should be excited and maintain high expectations.

    Does Defense Win Championships?

    Yes, defense wins championships.
