The Dallas Cowboys may have just lost quarterback Dak Prescott for a few weeks but that did not stop the team from trading for offense during the 2024 NFL Trade Deadline. It has been reported that the Dallas Cowboys have traded a 2025 4th-round pick to the Carolina Panthers in exchange for a 2025 7th-round pick and wide receiver Jonathan Mingo.
Jonathan Mingo has not been able to do too well in his young NFL career as he has 12 receptions on 26 targets for 121 yards (10.1 yards per catch) this season and is yet to find the end zone. He has not had more than 40 receiving yards in a game this year and has had one catch in the last four games. The 2023 second-round pick out of Ole Miss could step up in the Dallas Cowboys depth chart and improve going forward.
This trade took a lot of people by surprise but this could have been done for a very simple reason, despite the price being so high. The Jets traded a conditional 3rd-round pick for Davante Adams while the Chiefs sent a conditional 5th-round pick for DeAndre Hopkins.
Why did the Dallas Cowboys make this trade?

The Dallas Cowboys paid both wide receiver CeeDee Lamb and quarterback Dak Prescott this offseason. This upcoming offseason they will have to pay linebacker Micah Parsons so that means they need to get as many cheap players on their books as possible. While Jonathan Mingo isn’t that “sexy” name that people wanted to target, it is a player on their rookie contract making little money in the grand scheme of things.
That seemingly is the only positive for this trade to happen right now as the Dallas Cowboys are dealing with injuries and this appears to be a lost season. They acquired a player that can be a fringe starting wide receiver and improve going forward.
