The Dallas Cowboys went 2-0 on Sunday after another impressive victory. This time around, they took down the New York Jets, 30-10, as Dallas marched on to maintain their 100% record to start the new season.
Dallas has lived up to the lofty expectations their fans have had on them thus far, and they will now look to keep it going in Week 3 against the Arizona Cardinals.
Dallas Cowboys Relying Heavily on Tony Pollard
Running back Tony Pollard has been an integral part of the Cowboys‘ strong start to 2023. The Pro Bowl RB was at it again on Sunday, logging a whopping 25 carries and seven catches. Both were career-highs for the 26-year-old, who is clearly going to be a key figure for Dallas’ offense this season.
Combined with his outing against the New York Giants in Week 1, Pollard now has 48 touches in two games. That’s currently the top mark among all running backs in the NFL thus far, and at this point, there’s no denying that Pollard is the most hard-working RB out there.
Mike McCarthy Not Worried by Tony Pollard’s High Usage Rate
Dallas head coach Mike McCarthy was asked by reporters to share his thoughts on Pollard logging a career-high 32 touches against the Jets through 56 offensive snaps. For his part, the veteran shot-caller is completely unconcerned, noting that Pollard has “always shown incredible endurance.”
“I feel like he’s definitely built for it,” McCarthy said, via team beat reporter Michael Gelken of the Dallas Morning News. “… He’s doing all the little things we’re asking of him.”
McCarthy and the Cowboys clearly aren’t going to hold back in using Tony Pollard heavily throughout this season. They have proven their willingness to do so in their first couple of games this year, and the fact that they’ve come out of both of them with massive wins (they have outscored their opponents 70-10 through two weeks) means that it’s working.
We expect more of the same from Dallas and Pollard in Week 3 as they put their unbeaten record to the test against an Arizona Cardinals side that has yet to taste victory this season.
