The Dallas Cowboys are closing in on the NFC East title and a two-seed in the conference. While the team has been doing well, one player, running back Tony Pollard, has had a down year. When asked in an interview this week about his performance, Pollard gave a very candid response.
Dallas Cowboys Tony Pollard On 2023 Season
Pollard has rushed for 935 yards and five touchdowns on the season. While he could still eclipse 1,000 yards, the team was hoping for him to explode this season as the full-time starter. Pollard knows that he hasn’t lived up to expectations.
“I thought I would probably have a better year than I am now. Where we are as far as playoffs and rankings, I couldn’t complain with everything in front of us. I would say just trying to get more at-bats at the plate. Get more repetition for the o-line and get a feel for how the defense is playing things and getting into a rhythm.”
“I hold myself to a higher standard. I try to be my hardest critic and my hardest judge before anybody else can. So I’m always hard on myself.”
Pollard knows that he has struggled and believes that he can continue to improve with more reps.
Winning Helps
What has helped fans and Pollard feel better about the season is that despite the down performance, the team is still winning. They need a win but getting the number two seed in the conference guarantees them two home games. This team has been great at home and so-so on the road. Getting to play at home is a huge boost and if the 49ers get upset, the road to the Super Bowl will run through Dallas.
Can this finally be the year for the Dallas Cowboys? They are in the best position they have been in recently and now simply need to finish the job.
