The Dallas Cowboys are preparing for a very important off-season heading into the 2024 NFL season.
Legendary draft analyst, Mel Kiper Jr. of ESPN revealed his latest mock draft. In his most recent mock, the Dallas Cowboys could be angling to select the club’s next franchise tackle in the form of Georgia’s Amarius Mims.
“Amarius Mims has even fewer college starts than Guyton, as he was limited to just eight over the past three seasons because of injuries and draft picks in front of him on the Bulldogs’ depth chart. But when he did play, he made defenders look silly. Mims, 6-7 and 340, allowed zero sacks and just five total pressures across 372 career pass blocks. Will NFL teams be scared off by his limited experience, or will they draft him high based on his size and potential? I lean toward the latter, because he was that good when he got on the field.
To make room for Mims, the Cowboys could part ways with longtime left tackle Tyron Smith, who’s a free agent, or have him compete with Terence Steele on the right side. He played right tackle in college but has the talent to play both sides.”
Dallas Cowboys’ Up-and-Down 2023 Season
All was well in ‘Jerry World’ as the Dallas Cowboys began their season with a 7-2 record, which included a five-game winning streak over the likes of the Philadelphia Eagles, Seattle Seahawks, Washington Commanders, Carolina Panthers, and New York Giants. Despite a few losses to the Eagles, 49ers, and a shocking one in Arizona against the lowly Kyler Murray-less Cardinals, the Cowboys ended the regular season with back-to-back wins over the Jets and Giants to win the NFC East.
Unfortunately for the Dallas Cowboys, history repeated itself when Jerry Jones’ club was throttled by Jordan Love and the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Wild Card in their own place, 48-32. After such an embarrassing loss to his old team, it was seemingly a foregone conclusion that Mike McCarthy would be the fall guy for the Cowboys’ short-coming…especially with names like Bill Belichick and Jim Harbaugh on the market.
However, Jerry Jones has other plans as he will keep McCarthy manning the sidelines in 2024, which will certainly be met with mixed reactions by Cowboys fans and foes alike.
