Dallas Cowboys: Dak Prescott And Micah Parsons Sound Off On Jerry Jones’ Controversial Comments About CeeDee Lamb Contract

The Dallas Cowboys are in a pivotal place when it comes to their immediate future.

Instead of extending Dak Prescott and freeing up salary cap space to add talent that would help them make a run at a Super Bowl in 2024, they are allowing their franchise QB to play through the end of his contract.

Now, with far less talent —due to players who have left during free agency — Prescott is expected to somehow win this season without the same level of talent he had last season. Either way, there’s a strong chance he walks and joins another team after 2024.

Already gone are five starters from 2023, including stalwart left tackle Tyron Smith and running back Tony Pollard. The Dallas Cowboys have added precious little on the free-agent market, and declined to make the one move that could have kept the team together while also proving a new direction—firing Mike McCarthy and adding a new head coach.

Instead, the Cowboys’ strategy has been to keep McCarthy and sit on their hands through free agency. And if the 2024 season flops as badly as 2023 did, we’re likely in for a complete roster demolition. Why not just start it now?

All offseason long, the discussion about the Cowboys discussion has been about finding a way to extend their three biggest stars. Prescott is playing out the last year of his current contract — but instead of extending him after the season and freeing up cap space to add new talent around him — Jones and company have decided to sit on their hands, meaning the possibility of Prescott joining a new team after 2024.

Even with Prescott’s future uncertain, almost everyone plugged into the Dallas Cowboys plans believes they plan on giving CeeDee Lamb a contract extension before the start of the 2024 campaign and extending Parsons following the season.

The problem? Every NFL Insider, fan and player have known Lamb was due for an extension since the playoff loss to the Packers, yet here we are in August less than a month until the season opener and Lamb still has yet to sign a contract.

The longer the standoff the more time Lamb misses fine-tuning his craft with the offense ahead of the season and other situations, like Lamb requesting a trade, become more realistic.

Jones threw more fuel on the fire on Thursday with his response when asked about the current negotiations with Lamb.

“ I don’t have any urgency to get it done,” the Cowboys owner said in a way that makes everyone believe the negotiations with his star WR may be contentious.

If the Cowboys are going to maximize this wave of current talent and compete for a Super Bowl this season, Jones needs to stop playing games and lock down his top players.

Lamb, who has kept quite quiet during this effort to forge a contract extension that would end his camp holdout, instantly posted a response on Twitter.

    “lol,” Lamb wrote.

And now Dak Prescott and Micah Parsons – who, by the way, are also eligible for new deals, want a piece of the action and are publicly chiming in supporting their teammate who appears In a standoff with the Dallas Cowboys owner.

First, Parsons, the team’s best defensive player, retweeted Lamb’s “lol,” obviously suggesting support for his teammate’s position.

And then, at the end of Prescott’s media session, the QB, well-aware of the buzz on campus, brought up Jones’ quote. And he fired back.

“I know y’all want to ask,” he said. “I got urgency for it to happen.”

Lamb is due $17.99 million in 2024, the final year of his deal. The Dallas Cowboys could use the franchise tag on him next March – thus, maybe, the idea of “no urgency.” But that was never the plan here; Dallas stated openly that it intended on getting Lamb done at the start of camp.

Lamb is seeking a deal near top receiver Justin Jefferson, who just got $35 million per year, as a reward for what he’s done (135 receptions with 1,749 yards and 12 touchdowns) and will do.

Prescott wants to be one of the highest paid QBS after this season and Parsons will be due to become the highest paid pass rusher in the NFL, so what is Jerry going to do to keep this trio together?
