The Dallas Cowboys have finally reached the end of drawn-out CeeDee Lamb contract extension saga. After holding out for the entirety of Dallas’ training camp and preseason, the First Team All-Pro wide receiver agreed to a four-year $136 million contract with the Cowboys.
Lamb’s $34 million average annual salary is the second highest in the NFL for a non-quarterback. He now trails only Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson, who signed a four-year $140 million contract earlier this year ($35 million average annual salary).
The Dallas Cowboys Still Need to Work Out Contract Extensions for Dak Prescott and Micah Parsons
As fans are well aware, Lamb is not the only star player on the Cowboys roster that is due to receive a monster contract extension. In addition to their All-Pro wide receiver, Dallas also needs to find a way to extend quarterback Dak Prescott and linebacker Micah Parsons.
In regard to Prescott, his next contract, whether it comes from the Cowboys or a different NFL team, is expected to be the richest in NFL history. This is because two other starting quarterbacks, Trevor Lawrence of the Jacksonville Jaguars and Jordan Love of the Green Bay Packers, each signed extensions that will pay them $55 million a year on average. Additionally, Jared Goff of the Detroit Lions got and new deal worth $53 million a year and Tua Tagovailoa of the Miami Dolphins signed a contract extension worth $53.1 million annually.
Parsons, according to Cowboys COO Stephen Jones, wants a deal that will rival the one that Lamb received. Earlier this offseason, he revealed to the media that both players were seeking contracts that would make them the highest paid non-quarterbacks in the NFL.
As mentioned previously, Lamb’s contract is worth $1 million less per year than Jefferson’s deal with Minnesota. What Parsons’ potential deal will look like remains to be seen.

“Congratulations to my man CeeDee Lamb. Man, couldn’t be happier for the guy. One of the best dudes in the locker room. One of the best players on our team. To get the payday he got to take care of his family. I couldn’t be more happy for CeeDee. Congratulations to my brother CeeDee Lamb. It’s a dream to watch you, partner up with you and suiting up with you every week. Congratulations on your bread, you earned every dollar.”
All offseason, Cowboys players, including Parsons, had voiced their support of Lamb as he held out of training camp in search of his new contract. Now that he has come to an agreement with Dallas, he will be welcomed back into the locker room with open arms.
What Will the Dallas Cowboys Have to Pay Micah Parsons?
As one can assume based on Lamb’s contract, Parsons may be willing to settle for something less than the $35 million that Jefferson got on his extension. That being said, Parsons is not going to come cheap.
Currently, the highest-paid defensive player in the NFL is Nick Bosa of the San Francisco 49ers, who is making $34 million annually. Kansas City Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones signed a deal last year that pays him $31.75 million a year. Josh Allen of the Jacksonville Jaguars is currently making $30 million a year.
In other words, there is no way that Parsons is going to sign a deal worth less than $30 million a year.
How Dallas will be able to afford him, Lamb, and Prescott remains to be seen, but hopefully the ever-increasing salary cap will give them the ability to do so.
