Dallas Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones will have his life story told in two different ways. He may not want one of them out, though.
Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys generate countless headlines. Most people would be interested in his life story. Within the next few years, the public will have two options to choose from.
First, you can watch the upcoming Netflix docuseries authorized by Jones (for $50 million). Second, you can wait for Don Van Natta, Jr. of ESPN, to write Jones’s unauthorized biography.
Some news: I’m writing a book about Jerry Jones. Called “The Star,” my book will trace Jones’s remarkable life story and the astonishing rise of the NFL. Thrilled to be back in Jerry’s World. Coming in 2026 from @AvidReaderPress, a @simonschuster imprint. https://t.co/s2SNjGauin pic.twitter.com/Zhsio7SnAH

Dallas Cowboys Owner
Jerry Jones bought the Dallas Cowboys for $150 million back in 1989. Within six years of owning the franchise, he won his third Super Bowl.
Since then, the demise of the Dallas Cowboys has been quite public. They have not made an NFC championship since their early success.
Although the team hasn’t won a championship since 1996, that has not decreased its value. The Dallas Cowboys are thought to be worth over $9 billion. Jones’ Dallas Cowboys have topped Forbes’ list of the most valuable NFL teams since 2018.
Jerry Jones Authorized
According to Puck News, Netflix is acquiring the new docuseries about Cowboys owner Jerry Jones for $50 million. Netflix outbid ESPN in a bidding war for the new show.
The new series will focus on the franchise in the 1990s and its ascension to living up to the title of “America’s Team.” It will also feature “never-before-seen footage and interviews” from all-time greats Troy Aikman, Michael Irvin, and Emmitt Smith, according to SI.com.
Jerry Jones authorized the show. His role in it is unknown, and no release date has been set yet.
Jerry Jones Unauthorized
The Jones biography, which has the working title The Star, will be published in 2026. According to Pro Football Talk, it will be based on “hundreds of interviews, including dozens of hours of interviews with Jones.”
Nine years ago, Don Van Natta wrote a lengthy profile of Jones for ESPN.com. Van Natta has followed Jones closely throughout his ownership of the Cowboys.
Van Natta Jr., a senior writer for ESPN and winner of three Pulitzer Prizes for his work as a journalist, has built an extensive network of sources among National Football League owners, executives, and lawyers who work closely with the league.
Don Van Natta spoke about his opportunity to write the book. “In my 35-year journalism career, Jerry Jones stands alone as the most fascinating person I’ve met and covered,” Van Natta says. “The son of a North Little Rock grocer, Jones rose from being a risk-happy, nearly-broke oil wildcatter to become one of the most influential and powerful people in American sports while inventing—and playing by—his own set of rules.”
This biography is unauthorized, so Jerry may not want all the information told within this story. Although the wait is long, seeing what Van Natta publishes will be eye-opening.
