The Dallas Cowboys bid farewell to their unblemished record on Sunday night after a disappointing loss to the previously winless Arizona Cardinals. Dallas turned in a lackluster performance at the University of Phoenix Stadium, which resulted in Arizona securing a 28-16 victory.
Dak Prescott Speaks Out on Loss
Cowboys star quarterback Dak Prescott spoke to reporters after the game, and he pointed to the team’s inability to convert their chances as the culprit in this defeat:
“When you look at this loss, we moved the ball up and down the field and just couldn’t score,” Prescott said, via the team website. “We’ve gotta get back to the drawing board, and that starts with me making some throws and making some plays with my feet to try and get it done. We didn’t convert in the red zone. That’s the story of this game, period.”
Prescott isn’t washing his hands clean at all. In fact, he knows that he could have done much better against the Cardinals, particularly with his execution in the opposition’s final 20 yards.
The two-time Pro Bowl quarterback finished the game with a respectable 25-of-40 completed passes for 249 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. However, it goes without saying that it was a bad day at the office for both Dak and the Cowboys.
The Dallas Cowboys Have Had to Battle Adversity
It has been a tough week for Dallas. They lost star cornerback Trevon Diggs to a season-ending injury on Thursday, which is an undeniably tough blow for their title aspirations this season. Tyron Smith and Tyler Biadasz were also unavailable against the Cardinals due to respective injuries.
Be that as it may, Prescott isn’t making any excuses:
“This was a humbling loss,” he said. “We had a lot of adversity this week. It wasn’t easy. No one is making excuses, we thought we had a great opportunity to come in here even with the adversity and get a win and we didn’t.”
Dak was also asked if he felt like this loss was a wake-up call for the Cowboys, to which the 30-year-old clapped back with a defiant response:
“Y’all put us on top of the world,” said Prescott when asked if the loss to the Cardinals was a wake-up call. “We know who we are … There hadn’t been but one undefeated team in this league — ever. So to say it sucks, yeah, it’s humbling. But to say it’s a wake-up call? … We just didn’t get it done. It goes back to myself, the offense and the red zone.
“We get better there and we win this game.”
Dallas gets a chance to redeem itself on Sunday against the New England Patriots for Week 4.
