Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb is looking for a new contract this offseason. He was not at workouts on Monday and it appears as if he will skip other team activities moving forward until they can get a new deal.
Lamb is entering the final year of his contract with the Cowboys and is looking to be paid one of the highest wide receivers in the NFL. Lamb is 25 years old. Last season he caught 135 passes for 1,749 yards receiving and 12 touchdowns. He averaged 13.0 yards per catch.
CeeDee Lamb led the league in receptions last season, was second in receiving yards, and was third in touchdown receptions. It is interesting that the Eagles already gave wide receiver DeVonta Smith a new contract already.
Dallas Cowboys Wide Receiver CeeDee Lamb Hold Out Can Last Into Training Camp
Lamb holding out is already making news. This will continue to make news if this goes into July when NFL training camp usually begins. It isn’t the first time that a Dallas Cowboys player is holding out looking for a new contract.
Former Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott had this happen to him. He held out of training camp before reporting to camp with a new contract a few years ago. This could very well happen to Lamb because why should he risk any sort of injury before getting a new contract with Dallas?
He should be paid like one of the elite wide receivers in the NFL. Lamb is easily a top-five wide receiver in the NFL with his production. He is the only reliable wide receiver in the Cowboys offense. Quarterback Dak Prescott can not rely on anyone else to trust.
This is one of the reasons why the Cowboys need to draft a wide receiver in the 2024 NFL Draft. CeeDee Lamb is in the same class as Justin Jefferson, Tyreek Hill, and Davante Adams. Lamb was the 17th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft out of Oklahoma.
The Cowboys can’t continue making headlines for the wrong reasons. Owner Jerry Jones needs to give Lamb a contract extension as soon as possible. It may not be a big deal now, but it will be if this is a still story three months from now because that is when NFL training camp will be.
