The Dallas Cowboys need running back help and Ezekiel Elliott remains a free agent. Dallas might have one of the weakest running back rooms in the NFL after they lost Tony Pollard in free agency to the Tennessee Titans. The current running backs on the Cowboys roster at the moment are Rico Dowdle, Deuce Vaughn, Malik Davis, and Snoop Conner.
Elliott is 28 years old and played last season with the New England Patriots. He will be 29 years old when the next NFL season begins. Ezekiel Elliott was the fourth overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft by the Dallas Cowboys and he played his college football with the Ohio State Buckeyes.
Last season with the New England Patriots, he rushed for 642 yards on 184 carries and three touchdowns, along with averaging 3.5 yards per carry. He also caught 51 passes for 313 yards receiving and two touchdowns, along with averaging 6.1 yards per reception.
The Dallas Cowboys Should Bring Back Ezekiel Elliott Because The Running Back Room Is Not Good, But They Could Also Look At Dalvin Cook
Bringing back Elliott should be the answer for the Cowboys at running back, but would owner Jerry Jones want to bring him back is another story. Quarterback Dak Prescott is close with Ezekiel Elliott and that would be good for Prescott even though he doesn’t have the same juice he once did.
Not only should Dallas bring Elliott, but they should also sign Dalvin Cook. Cook is 28 years old and will be 29 years old when the 2024 season begins. He didn’t receive many carries with the New York Jets and will have a lot of mileage for the 2024 season. Cook rushed for 214 yards on 67 carries and zero touchdowns, along with averaging 3.2 yards per carry.
If the Cowboys were to not sign either of these players for next season, it feels as if Dallas is unserious about winning it all. This is why many fans and also former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant have questioned the moves of this franchise this offseason.
If they were to not bring back Ezekiel Elliott but did sign Dalvin Cook, that would be fine. It still would be an upgrade. But for the Cowboys to not address this room and for Dallas to also maybe not draft someone at the position would be totally inexcusable.
