The Tennessee Titans announced a coaching change following a couple of awful miscues by the special teams on Sunday. The Indianapolis Colts beat the Titans 31-28 after scoring ten points on two blocked punts, including a scoop, and score a touchdown on a blocked punt.
Per the Colts website, the coaching staff noticed a trend the Titans had with their punt team, and the Colts had a plan to exploit it:
“Those coaches noticed something the Titans did on punts and figured it could be exploited. If the Titans gave the Colts a certain look on a punt, they had the option to check into certain punt block assignments – and preparing for those checks was an intensive process, one that required everyone on the field to execute their assignment for it to work.”

Titans head coach Mike Vrabel didn’t take much time to make a change to his coaching staff after the blunder. According to Jim Wyatt with the Titans, Tennessee fired special teams coach Craig Aukerman. Tom Quinn will replace Aukerman.
Tom Quinn, special teams assistant with the # Titans, will take over for Craig Aukerman as ST coach.
Quinn was a long-time special teams coach with the New York Giants, where he served from 2006-2021 before being hired this offseason.

The 4-8 Titans could be looking at making more staffing changes after the season. The 2023 campaign has been underwhelming for Vrabel’s team.
