On Sunday, the Dallas Cowboys won the division with a dominating performance over the Washington Commanders. Prior to Week 18, the team only needed to win this game or see the Philadelphia Eagles lose their season finale to the New York Giants.
The Cowboys started the game slow, getting down 10-7 early, after having their field goal attempt blocked. Fortunately for them, they didn’t allow a single point after this as Dak Prescott connected with his favorite target, CeeDee Lamb for two scores en route to a 38-10 blowout win over a feisty division rival.
The Streak Continues
The NFC East has failed to have a repeat division winner in the past 19 years. The Cowboys kept that streak alive today, claiming the NFC East and the Two Seed in the NFC Playoffs. This streak is the longest in the NFL and fans are left to wonder when it will come to an end.
Many thought that the streak would finally come to an end this season as the Philadelphia Eagles started the year 10-0 and looked like they were well on their way to being the division champion. The season did not goes as Philly had planned as the team seemed to fall apart after Mid-November.
Can the Cowboys End the Streak in 2024?
The Cowboys could look to end this lengthy streak next season. The team does have some hurdles to maintain the same roster. The biggest would be on the offensive end. Tony Pollard is set to be a free agent and while he hasn’t had an amazing season, he is still a solid piece of this team.
If the Cowboys want to keep morale up, they should pay their star receiver who is in his contract year. CeeDee Lamb is set for a large pay day, finishing the season first in receptions, second in yards and tied for first in touchdowns. The Cowboys need to do everything they can to keep him happy as their failure or success is greatly impacted by Lamb’s performance.
