The Ohio State Buckeyes have lost four straight games against the Michigan Wolverines. When the Buckeyes lost to the Wolverines 13-10 before the 2025 college football playoffs, it dropped Ohio State to 10-2 on the season and many people questioned the toughness of the team.

A lot of people were calling for head coach Ryan Day to be fired. However, the Buckeyes decided to pick themselves back up after the Michigan loss and win the national title for the first time since the 2014 season. Despite Ohio State winning it all in 2024, Michigan fans won’t let the Buckeyes fanbase forget that the Wolverines have beaten them over the last four seasons. What is the most important game for Ohio State for the 2025 college football season?

CBS Sports Analyst Lists the Most Important Game For the Ohio State Buckeyes Against the Michigan Wolverines

Ohio State Buckeyes wide receiver Carnell Tate (17) celebrates a first down catch beside Indiana Hoosiers defensive back Terry Jones Jr. (12) during the NCAA football game at Ohio Stadium in Columbus on Monday, Nov. 25, 2024. Ohio State won 38-15.

Will Backus of CBS Sports listed the most important college football game of the 2025 season for each potential Top 25 team in the nation. Backus has the Buckeyes ranked number one. To no surprise, he has the Wolverines game on the road on November 29 as the most important game for Ohio State in the 2025.

This is apparently more important than the season opener in Columbus, Ohio against the Texas Longhorns on August 31. The battle in Ann Arbor, Michigan between the two rivals could be spicy once again after what transpired after the game in 2024 with Michigan planting the flag at the 50-yard line of the Buckeyes.

    Backus said about this game,

“Could it be anyone else? Ohio State climbed to college football’s mountaintop last season, but they stumbled against Michigan along the way. The Buckeyes have now lost four straight against their most despised rival and that streak is really the only bugaboo left haunting Ohio State coach Ryan Day.”

It is going to be interesting to see how the Buckeyes perform in the 2025 college football season leading up to that game. With Ohio State losing to Michigan, it knocked them out of the BIG10 title game last season. It was the Oregon Ducks and the Penn State Nittany Lions instead. Also, the Buckeyes and the Wolverines could be a game that has playoff implications once again during the 2025 college football season also.
