The Indianapolis Colts have been a definite hit or miss team this season behind their backup quarterback Gardner Minshew. They have managed to make a push into the playoffs even after rookie superstar and starting quarterback Anthony Richardson landed on injured reserve early in the season. Unfortunately, that run seems to be hitting a roadblock as Indianapolis has lost two of their last three and fallen out of a potential playoff spot.
Colts Quarterback Gardner Minshew Frustrated over Loss to Atlanta
The loss to Atlanta certainly is a major blow to the Colts playoff hopes as the team drops to being tied with four other teams for the seventh wildcard slot. While Indianapolis hold the lead over the other two, it certainly doesn’t bode well that the team lost to a struggling Falcons squad.
Understandably so, Minshew was irritated after the loss and did arguably the worst thing a starting quarterback could do. Minshew spoke out to the press after the Christmas Eve letdown and let his teammates know what he was feeling.
“You start counting wins and you start doing schedule math and you look around, it’s like, ‘Well they lost to Carolina; we beat the Steelers ,’” Minshew said, via Stephen Holder of ESPN. “Well you know what? You gotta go earn it right now. And if you take this lightly, you might not end up with another [chance].”
Minshew certainly had a right to be upset with his team after the journeyman quarterback has done everything in his power to keep Indianapolis in playoff contention. He also essentially asserted that his teammates need to meet the same level of commitment.
Luckily for Indianapolis, their fate is still in their own hands as a long list of AFC contenders blew their opportunity on Saturday and Sunday. The team has two more games to go against the struggling Raiders and fellow contender Houston and if they win out both, they will earn a playoff spot in the AFC.
