College football has experienced a lot of coaching changes recently.  Coaches have been hired and fired and the 2022 season has ended. Deion Sanders was hired as the new head coach of Colorado’s football program. The hire made Sanders Colorado’s 28th head coach. Sanders was hired after Jackson State won its second straight SWAC championship. Sanders has made an impact on and off the gridiron. Sanders brings his talent to Boulder and Colorado football fans and players are excited to welcome him.

What Sanders brings to Colorado football

The Buffaloes had a season to forget. Colorado finished the season with a 1-11 record. Colorado’s defense gave up over 40 points in the majority of its games. Lucky for Colorado Deion Sanders is a defensive mastermind. Jackson State’s defense was great during the 2022 season. Sander’s team never gave up 40 points. The Tiger’s defense only allowed 24 points twice.  Defense is an important aspect of football. Teams can’t give up a lot of points and expect to win games.

Deion Sanders brings a winning attitude to Colorado. Sanders went 23-1 during his time at Jackson State.  Sanders assured the media Colorado would be competitive and win during his introductory press conference. Sanders has assembled a staff who share his vision. Sanders said, “I have the best coaching staff assembled, some of the best scouts, some of the best kids that we’re recruiting, some already coming on the way as I speak.”

Colorado’s offense struggled to score points. Colorado’s offense averaged 15 points per game. Offenses have to score points and put together scoring drives. Jackson State’s offense averaged 38 points per game. The Tiger’s offense was electric under Deion Sanders. Additionally, Jackson State’s offense was consistent and dominant. The Buffaloes’ quarterback position was abysmal. J.T. Shrout passed for  1,220 passing yards, threw 7 touchdowns, and 8 interceptions. Jackson State quarterback Sheduer Sanders passed for 3,383 yards, threw 36 touchdowns, and 6 interceptions. If Sheduer joins Deion in Colorado the quarterback position will be its strength.
