The Colorado football team has a megastar in dual-threat player Travis Hunter. A wide receiver on offense and a cornerback on defense, Hunter took the college football world by storm last year for his powerful play on both sides of the ball. Playing an unprecedented number of snaps in a football game, the Colorado Buffaloes received 57 receptions for 721 yards and five touchdowns across nine games last season. He also added 30 tackles, five passes defended, and three interceptions while earning All-American honors.
Hunter enters this weekend’s matchup against the Arizona Wildcats as the conference leader in receptions with 49 this year. The dual-threat Hunter has also continued his stellar performance on defense, tallying 17 tackles, two interceptions, and a TFL. Despite his team already possessing two losses and failing to maintain a genuinely elite stat line on either side of the ball, Hunter believes he can win the prestigious Heisman Trophy Award.
Colorado Football WR/DB Travis Hunter Eyeing Heisman Trophy Award
According to the popular Colorado football fan account GUCCE on Twitter, star two-way player Travis Hunter believes the Heisman is well within the possibility for the Jackson State transfer:
I know I can win it. I don’t know who is there. We all see Ashton Jeanty, but it is not like we haven’t seen a running back that good. We haven’t seen a player that plays both ways and I am going to keep saying that. He has what, 95 carries? For what, 1,000 yards? If I had 95 catches, how much yards do you think I would have? He got double the touches I got on the offensive side of the ball, and I still have defensive stats that are still crazy, and we are in Week 6.
Hunter, an All-American last season and the top recruit in the class of 2022 believes he would be the Heisman frontrunner if he had the opportunities presented to other top players in the country. Most notably, Hunter points at Boise State Broncos running back Ashton Jeanty having 95 carries through his team’s first five games, with the rusher accounting for 1,031 yards and 16 touchdowns during that span. Hunter suggested he could eclipse Jeanty’s yardage with the same amount of touches.
Unfortunately for Hunter and his fanbase, Jeanty is pacing a new NCAA record for rushing yards and touchdowns. At the same time, it is nearly impossible for a wide receiver to match a running back in touches. Meanwhile, Colorado football will likely suffer more losses this season as they fight for bowl eligibility. Per DraftKings Sportsbook, Hunter is fourth in Heisman Trophy Award odds, trailing Jeanty, Oregon’s Dillon Gabriel, and Cam Ward of the Miami Hurricanes.
