Despite its 4-8 record last year, the Colorado football team has shown promising signs of improvement in the 2024 offseason. After a 1-11 finish in 2022, Colorado poached former NFL megastar turned head coach Deion Sanders away from Jackson State, resulting in a three-win increase circa 2023. After a mass exodus in the transfer portal this spring, the Buffaloes and Sanders reloaded with incoming players of their own. On Thursday, they added yet another playmaker through the portal.
According to Matt Zenitz of 247Sports, the Colorado Buffaloes have snagged Arkansas Razorbacks transfer Isaiah Augustave from the portal. Former top recruit and Ohio State Buckeyes rusher Dallan Hayden has also joined Colorado through the portal, while last year’s starter Dylan Edwards darted for Kansas State.
Running Back Isaiah Augustave: Heading to CU
The Colorado football program will have a new look running back room in 2023. With the loss of Dylan Edwards and Sy’veon Wilkerson, head coach Deion Sanders made it of utmost importance to lock in playmakers for the offensive backfield. After landing Dallan Hayden earlier this offseason, the Buffs snagged Isaiah Augustave on Thursday. A four-star recruit in the class of 2023, Augustave played for the Arkansas Razorbacks last fall.
After rushing for 1,061 yards and 11 touchdowns as a senior at Naples High School in Florida, he took a backseat at Arkansas in 2023. However, with injuries to Rocket Sanders and most of the RB room, Augustave earned carries as a true freshman. He finished the season with 202 rushing yards and a score on 35 carries. He ran for 80 yards and scored in the season finale against Missouri.
Colorado Football: RB Depth Chart
Former Arkansas top-recruit Isaiah Augustave will join Dallan Hayden atop the Colorado football running back depth chart. True freshman Micah Welsh also projects to play a significant role in 2024. Hayden, a four-star recruit in the class of 2022, rushed 130 times for 663 yards and six scores across his previous two seasons at Ohio State. Meanwhile, Welsh joins Colorado as one of the top running back recruits in the upcoming class.
Charlie Offerdahl could also play a substantial role next year. He recorded just two carries last season but has impressed this offseason and sits third on the current depth chart.
